Click here to verify that the App store is up and running. There have been instances when the App store has been down for eight hours.
Do I have to take app updates?
Yes. You will be prompted to update to the newest version once a newer version is available in the App Store. If you don't update the app within 30 days of the newest version release, the app will expire.
Do I need an access code for each log-in?
No.
How is PC Touch supported?
On-site resources are the first line of support. Issues that are not education- or device-related should be called into the help desk (extension 52-7000) Monday – Friday during normal business hours. If PC Touch is not working, direct the user to the desktop version of CareConnection.
Can all Advocate attending physicians, residents and advance practice clinicians use the apps?
The apps are designed for attending physicians, residents and advance practice clinicians caring for patients admitted to an inpatient service. Emergency room and day surgery patients may not appear in the apps.
Please note: Residents, APNs and PAs can't forward orders or notes to a supervisor for co-signature.
How do the sign-in levels work in the apps?
If you do something else on your Apple device and return to the app
- Within 15 minutes, you will not be asked to log-in again.
- 15 minutes to four hours, you will be asked to enter your four-digit PIN.
- Four hours or longer, you will be asked to enter your CareConnection password (the program will remember your login).
Will the app notify me if one of my orders doesn't go through?
You will see an error icon on the right side of the order. Tap on the order to see the actions needed to address the error. Once all of the actions are addressed, you can try signing the order again.
Will notes I sign in the app show up in CareConnection Office and CareNet+?
Yes.
What's the best way to use the voice recognition technology?
The voice recognition software is very good, but it's not perfect. It is easier to review the transcribed text after a couple of sentences or a single paragraph. Trying to dictate multiple paragraphs and then reviewing the text at the end reduces the likelihood you will find the subtle mistakes that the software makes when interpreting your voice.
Sometimes the app is interrupted when I have an alert or a phone call. The dictation does not resume like I expect it should. What can I do?
In some cases, adjusting the alerting functions can help with the voice recognition behavior when interrupted. Go to Settings>Notifications>Messages. Scroll down to "Alert Style When Unlocked." Choose the "Banners" option. The "Alerts" option can interfere with the voice recognition technology.
How do I remember how to use the different voice commands?
- Activate the microphone and say “What can I say?” OR
- Hold down the microphone for three seconds The next screen lists the available voice commands.
There are only a few note templates available. Can I create my own templates within the app?
Not exactly. You can now work with someone from your site clinical informatics team to set up customized templates that will only show up for you in PC Touch. Instead of brackets ("[]"), PC Touch relies on underscores ("_").
Some users have created pseudo note templates by writing out their usual templates in another Apple application (e.g., Notes) and then copying those templates into a free-text note template when needed.
I seem to losing battery power faster than before. What can I do to stop this from happening?
The voice-recognition software within the program consumes a lot of power. Here are two tips that users have found helpful:
- Make sure to turn the microphone off whenever you're done with the voice recognition. Leaving the microphone on will drain the battery quickly.
- Once you're done rounding for the day, turn off the app.
- Double-click on the button at the bottom of your device. You will see all apps running on your device.
- Swipe up on the Cerner app to inactivate it. If you need to access the app again for whatever reason, you will have to enter your CareConnection password again.
- On the next day you need to access CareConnection on your Apple device, tap on the Cerner Inpatient or Cerner Message Center icons.
After a week, this app is eating up my data plan. What can I do?
Limit your use of the apps when you have a WiFi connection. If you are contacted by a nurse or another member of the care team and you do not have a WiFi connection, turn on the app using your cellular connection at that time. Minimizing app use when a WiFi connection is not available is the most effective way to limit data use.
Does the program have any templates besides the note templates?
There are a few system-level texts that are available by voice (e.g., normal review of systems, normal physical exam). To review the most recent view of texts, activate the microphone and say "What can I say" or hold down the microphone for three seconds. You can then see what templates are available.
Please contact your site informatics team or leave a comment below to submit a request to add a system-level template. All requests will be reviewed at a monthly system-wide meeting for review and approval.
What about "auto-texts"?
You can create single-line "auto-texts" by saying "edit vocabulary" while the Dragon microphone is activated. You can have the system store a string of text to type when you say a different phrase (e.g., say "Mike's patient"; write "Patient's primary care provider is Dr. Michael Brown. Dr. Brown was contacted about this admission."). The typed phrases are limited to 76 characters.
Will the apps work if there's a system downtime?
If you're logged in before the system goes down, you may have read-only access. If you try to place an order or sign a note, you will receive an error message stating the action cannot be completed.
